B
uilt in the 2nd century BC, the Appian Way linked Brindisi to Rome and allowed the port to become a strategic gateway to the East for the Roman Empire. In 71 BC, this area saw Spartacus leading thousands of rebel slaves in an unsuccessful escape. Founded by the Messapians, the city has been ruled by several outsiders until the unification of Italy in 1861. A decade later Brindisi became a main port for the East Indian Company, and during the 2nd World War it served as Italy's capital when King Vittorio Emanuele III sheltered there. Today the visitor will appreciate its Romanesque churches, two castles, and important remains along the ancient walls and gates.

No weird headsets, no recorded voice, your guide will be "human"

Our guided tour includes 13 key points of the city, such as the Roman Column, a beautiful waterfront, the Swabian Castle, the Fisherman Village, the two main gates of the city, and the Monument to the Italians' Sailor, where we will have a photo stop for an amazing view of Brindisi. Our exclusive Road Train provides you with a relaxing, one-hour exploration of the city, leaving enough free time for those interested to shop in town.

...add "1 Hour Guided Walking Tour" in the downtown area

We offer our participants a convenient 5 €uro option (regular contribution is 10 €uro if not joining
Brindisi Express) for an additional one hour guided walking tour through Brindisi's little alleys to visit the Cathedral, the Temple St. John, the elegant Palazzo Granafei Nervegna (host of a treasure: the capital of the Roman column which served as the final point of the Appian Way), the remains of the ancient Roman Brindisium under the New Verdi Theater etc...
